Interleukin-1 RA is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This protein inhibits the activities of interleukin 1-alpha (IL1A) and interleukin 1-beta (IL1B), and modulates a variety of interleukin 1 related immune and inflammatory responses. This gene and five other closely related cytokine genes form a gene cluster spanning approximately 400kb on chromosome 2. A polymorphism of this gene is reported to be associated with increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. Amino Acid Sequence: The sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and was found to be Met-Arg-Pro-Ser-Gly Biological Activity: The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent inhibition of IL-1 stimulation of D10S cells was found to be 0.5ng/ml. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
