Plasmin is a serine protease with broad specificity which, in addition to cleavage of fibrin, is capable of activation and/or degradation of compounds of the coagulation, kinin generation and complement systems. Although plasmin can be inhibited by a number of plasma protease inhibitors in vitro, regulation of plasmin in vivo is thought to occur mainly through its interaction with a2-antiplasmin, and to a lesser extent, a2-macroglobulin. Specific Activity: As Reported Activity: One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will hydrolyze 1umole of tosyl-Gly-Pro-Lys-pNA per minute at 25C, pH 7.8. Note: One unit=1.25CU Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
