Streptomycin Sulfate is a broad spectrum antibiotic used in mammalian cell culture. It belongs to a group of drugs called aminoglycosides. Streptomycin inhibits prokaryote protein synthesis by binding to S12 protein of 30S ribosome. It prevents the transition from initiation complex to chain-elongating ribosome and causes miscoding. Thus, it prevents bacteria from manufacturing their cell walls.
