Transferrin is a 77kD plasma protein synthesized by the liver that is involved with the transport of iron. Each transferrin molecule has two domains, each with facility to to carry 2 ferric ions. The iron/transferrin complex is essential for hemoglobin synthesis and certain types of cell division. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Functional Assays, Western Blot and Immunofluorescence. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: Recognizes a band of ~77kD under reducing conditions in human plasma. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
