It exhibits broad-spectrum antiviral activity, with IC50 values of 0.69 µM for human cytomegalovirus (HCM), 0.37 µM for varicella-zoster virus, and 0.58 µM for herpes simplex virus (HSV) polymerase. PNU-183792 shows no activity against human alpha, gamma, and delta polymerases but inhibits simian varicella virus (SVV), murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV), and rat cytomegalovirus (RCMV).
