LXA4R, which was first identified based on sequence homology as the formyl peptide receptor like receptor (FPRL1). Lipoxin signaling through the LXA4R inhibits chemotaxis, transmigration, superoxide generation and NF-kappa B activation. Bao et al. (1992) identified 2 structural homologs of formyl peptide receptor (FPR1), FPRL1 (FPR2) and FPRL2 (FPR3). Since these 2 structural homologs did not recognize the ligand FMLP, Bao et al. (1992) referred to them as orphan receptors. Nonetheless, they probably function as chemotactic receptors. Prat et al. (2006) found that a Staphylococcus aureus protein, which they called FLIPr, bound to and impaired neutrophil responses to FPRL1 agonists in terms of calcium mobilization and directed migration.
